Application:
Sodium metabisulfite (SMBS) is a versatile chemical used as a preservative, antioxidant, and bleaching agent in food, preventing spoilage and discoloration in wines, dried fruits, seafood, and processed foods.
Industrially, it acts as a reducing agent in water treatment (chlorine removal), bleaching textiles, developing photographs, processing rubber, and even in pharmaceuticals as an excipient.
It's also used in mining for cyanide destruction and as a fungicide in shipping.
